< Middle/High School Academics District Calendar Guidance Office Media Center New Enrollment February 2022 Student of the Month Kaylee Rudolph Royalton High School is proud to announce that Kaylee Rudolph was selected as Student of the Month for February. Kaylee is the daughter of Philip and Michele and has a freshman brother named Zackary. When it comes to family Kaylee says they have been her biggest supporters, “My family has always been my biggest supporter. They encourage me to step out of my comfort zone and try my best even if I'm not confident in myself. If they didn't push me to try new things I don't think that I would be the person I am today. They also inspire me to see the good in people even if others don't. Growing up on a family farm taught me persistence, if something doesn't work the first time keep trying. My dad also instilled in me that the amount of effort you put in is what you get back, so work harder than everyone else. One of my favorite things to do with my family is traveling. Every summer we take a road trip to a new place. So far with my family, I have visited 12 states, and one day I hope to have visited all 50.” Outside of school Kaylee volunteers at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Bowlus and has worked at the Little Falls Bakery and Deli. She also enjoys the outdoors and spending time with her friends and family. At Royalton High School, Kaylee has been involved in a number of activities such as FFA, volleyball, Track and Cross-Country student manager, Jazz Band, Solo/Ensemble, Concert/Contest Band, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council and Minnesota Honor Society. In regards to all these activities her is what Kaylee had to say, “In the variety of clubs that I am a part of I have learned many beneficial life skills including leadership, communication, and time management skills. Band is something that I'm passionate about, and has taught me commitment and responsibility. I am 1st chair in my section and play flute, piccolo, and I am learning how to play the alto saxophone. By being involved in sports I was able to build better relationships with my fellow classmates and see how hard work really does pay off.” When it comes to her classes Kaylee says her favorite class was Intro to Ag because of its hands on approach, “ One of my favorite parts of this class was we were able to design a fishing rod, build it, and take it home for a forever memory. I would encourage other students to take this class because it is a great class to try something new. Even if you are not extremely interested in ag classes I think that this one has something for everyone.” As for a favorite teacher in high school, Kaylee says Mr. Skwira and Mr. Coppicus stand out, “Mr. Skirwa and Mr. Coppicus are two of my favorite teachers and have helped me become the leader I am today. Both of them helped me step out of my comfort zone, and are part of the reason I decided to further my education in both their areas, Agriculture and Music. Skwira and Coppicus always made class time important by making sure I really understood what they were teaching.” Kaylee’s favorite memory in high school happened after track, as Kaylee put it “My favorite high school memory is after every track meet last year Erin, Zara, Grace, and I would go to Bills and get chocolate milk then meet back at the parking lot and talk. This memory stands out above all because last year was an exceptionally strange year and spending that time with my friends made me forget all that was going on in the world at the time.” Next year Kaylee plans to attend Southwest Minnesota State University to major in Agriculture Education with a minor in Music and in ten years Kaylee hopes to be doing the following, “In 10 years I hope to have a job as an Agriculture teacher and FFA Advisor at a high school somewhere in Minnesota as well as be settled down and have started a family.” Kaylee’s advice to high school freshmen is short but sweet “These four years fly by fast so join all the activities you want, go to sporting events, don't be afraid to ask questions, and stand up for yourself, because before you know it, it will be your senior year.”

< Middle/High School Academics District Calendar Guidance Office Media Center New Enrollment November 2019 Student of the Month Allyson Waletski Royalton High School announces that Allyson Waletski has been selected as the November Student of the Month. Allyson is the daughter of Dave and Judy Waletski; she also has a younger sister, Amanda. Allyson’s family is important to her; she enjoys traveling to different parts of the United States with them and they encourage her to try her best in everything. Allyson mentions, “My family has encouraged me to go for my dreams because anything is possible if I work hard at it.” Allyson participates in many different activities at Royalton High School. She is active in Knowledge Bowl, WE Club, Spanish Club, Student Council, and MHS. Being involved in the activities allowed her to gain many friendships, but overall they have shown Allyson how to manage her time while being as involved as possible at school. Sports also take up a great deal of Allyson’s time. Her favorite high school memory comes from the basketball court. In playoffs as a junior, the Royalton girls’ team was seven-seed playing against the heavily favored two-seed Rush City. “Our team worked together to overcome a deficit and push the game into overtime,” leading to an eventual win by the Royals. “The best part of that game was celebrating together as a team at center court.” Allyson’s team is important to her since they have been playing together since 5th grade and many are her best best friends. In addition to basketball, Allyson also plays volleyball and softball. During the off season, she also played AAU basketball and Junior Volleyball. Brad Baumann, head girls’ basketball coach and social studies teacher, states that Allyson is one of the true treasures of Royalton High School. “She demonstrates exactly what you would like to see out of a senior student. She is an excellent student in the classroom and is at the top of her class. Allyson strives to do great work and is also willing to step in and help whenever needed. She is willing to accept difficult tasks and take them head on. As a teacher and coach, it has been a privilege to have Allyson in class and in basketball, and we're fortunate to have her as a student here at Royalton High School.” Randy Thielges, Science Teacher, also sees Allyson’s strengths in class as well as on the court. “Allyson is always a "go-getter" whether it’s her hustle on the courts or her efforts to be the best in her class. She always seems to find a way to give her best effort.” Based on this sentiment, it is no surprise that chemistry with Mr. Thielges is Allyson’s favorite class. She loved that the class was challenging and fun at the same time. She states that her favorite part of the class was doing labs and solving stoichiometry problems. Chemistry helped her realize that she wants to become a pharmacist. Allyson definitely suggests that anyone who is interested in the medical field should take chemistry; it is a lot of fun! Allyson’s favorite teacher in high school was Mr. Makela. She appreciates that he pushed her to become the writer she is today. Even though his class was the hardest class she took in high school, she really enjoyed it, “He put in so much extra time helping me write my essays and was always willing to stay after school to read through my work.” Mr. Makela inspired me to work hard and never give up. Next year, Allyson will be attending the Early Admissions Pharmacy Program at North Dakota State University. She chose to become a pharmacist because she wants to help people feel better and wants to work in the medical field. “Mr. Thielges showed me how much I love chemistry and encouraged me to go to a Pharmacy camp in Ohio this last summer,” which cemented her idea of becoming a pharmacist. In ten years, she sees herself practicing pharmacy at a hospital close to Royalton. She hopes to get married and travel in her free time. It is important to her to stay close to home because she wants to continue spending time with family. Allyson’s advice to high school freshmen is to be as involved as you can be throughout high school. Being in activities allows you to step out of your comfort zone and meet new people. It also allows you to see what things you enjoy that you otherwise would not have tried.
- November 2017 Student of the Month
< Middle/High School Academics District Calendar Guidance Office Media Center New Enrollment November 2017 Student of the Month Emily Maday Emily Maday, daughter of Beth and Tom Maday, has been named the November Student of the Month at Royalton High School (RHS). She has an older sister, Katelyn who graduated from RHS in 2014. Emily’s favorite class was Chemistry when she was a junior and Spanish 4 (CIC Intermediate Spanish 2 for college) for her current senior year. Her favorite teacher is Sra. Lindsey Gruber and she says “Emily consistently proves to be “the cream of the crop” among students. She is detail-oriented, organized, motivated, and always very diligent and thorough in her studies. She has an incredible work ethic and perseverance, both of which have contributed to her many academic achievements”. Ms. Sheri Menden her English teacher states that “One of the best aspects of teaching is watching the growth of students. Through the years, Emily has transitioned from a shy, watchful student to a confident and independent scholar, a student sure of her choices and decisions.” Never one to blow her own trumpet, Emily humbly leads by example: checking assignment requirements, assuming leadership roles in activities, and giving her best in all she does. Emily's more noticeable trait is her perseverance; she works at tasks, especially in researching and writing, until she achieves excellence. These are skills that will take her far as she pursues a career in the medical field. Ms. Kelcie Neumann, her Science teacher states that “She is a hard worker and always willing to help!” Emily is very involved in activities at the school; she is in National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, Royal Pride, Jazz and Pep band, Student Council, FFA, Spanish Club, Knowledge Bowl, 4-H, First United Methodist Church Youth Group. Emily’s favorite high school memory is traveling to Ecuador on a Spanish class trip in June of 2016. She experienced the culture of the indigenous people of Ecuador. She applied Spanish from the classroom to a real life situation. She explored the Amazon Rainforest, volcanoes and stood with one foot in the Northern Hemisphere and one foot in the Southern Hemisphere on the equator. Emily’s future plans are to attend a 4 year university, either the University of St. Thomas or St. Olaf, while pursuing a degree in the Pre-med program. The advice she would give to all freshmen students “focus on your grades, and no matter how challenging your classes may get, don’t give up and don’t be afraid to ask questions. As difficult as it can be, try not to procrastinate and remember to always respect your teachers. Also, get involved in as many activities as possible because they make for a fun and memorable four years in high school before you know it, your years at RHS will come to an end.” She sees herself in 10 years hopefully being a physician in the process of completing her medical residency. She also hopes to be married and thinking about starting a family.

< Middle/High School Academics District Calendar Guidance Office Media Center New Enrollment December 2018 Student of the Month Jackson Held Jackson Held, son of Joe and Janet Held, has been named the December Student of the Month at Royalton High School (RHS). He has an older brother, Ty, who graduated from RHS. Held’s favorite class is math with Jeff Schoenrock because, “he makes it easy and fun.” “I have had Jackson the last 2 years in both of my college math classes. He has excelled in my classes. He quickly grasps the concepts and then helps others in class understand it. He is able to explain things in a way others seem to understand,” said Schoenrock. “Jackson is very dedicated to RHS. I have not only witnessed him giving it his all in the classroom, I also see him daily in the workout center. He gave it his all in football this year and is doing the same in wrestling. All his hard work is paying off in the classroom, on the field, and on the mat. He is a positive role model for all the students and athletes in school. Jackson is very respectful, caring and hardworking.” Social Studies teacher Jeremy Schaa said, “Jackson speaks with his actions not his words, and demonstrates what it looks like to be both a good student and a good person.” Held’s activities include football, wrestling, and FFA. A favorite high school memory for Jackson was the senior class winning the Homecoming Olympics. Future plans for Held are to attend St.Cloud State University where he plans to study construction management. He will also continue his wrestling career at SCSU. Jackson’s advice to freshmen is, “Do what has to be done; when it has to be done; as well as it can be done; do it that way all the time.”
- October 2025 Student of the Month
< Middle/High School Academics District Calendar Guidance Office Media Center New Enrollment October 2025 Student of the Month Abigail Roering Abigail Roering credits her family as essential in shaping who she is today. They are a constant source of support, encouragement, and inspiration, driving her to be the best version of herself. She is so incredibly thankful for them and their reliability, understanding, and encouragement. She says, “They taught me the importance of perseverance and instilled in me a passion for excellence. Beyond that, I simply enjoy being with them, whether it's for simple evenings at home or exciting family vacations.” Abigail's favorite class is Composition I and II with Ms. Menden. "Although the workload was intense, the education I received exceeded my expectations, helping me to not only further develop my writing skills, but also gain an awareness of the broader world through class material. Likewise, the class also provided an unexpected benefit: allowing me to discover who I am and further develop my passions through research. The findings from one research assignment in particular irreversibly set the trajectory for my future goals. In short, this class was extremely influential and has guided me as I determine my life goals." Among her favorite teachers, Abigail wrote, "My favorite teachers are Ms. Menden and Profe Mathison. Both played an important role in my life by challenging me, not just through class material, but also by helping me gain perspective and challenge my own worldview. Their intelligence inspires me to attain academic excellence and remains a key motivating factor as I continue my educational journey." Over the past few years, she participated in numerous activities throughout my time at Royalton High School, including Student Council, Minnesota Honor Society (MHS), YES!club, the Royal Ambassador Program (RAP), Spanish Club, Robotics, Prom Committee, Cross Country, and Track. "I enjoy staying busy, and participating in these activities has allowed me to productively fill my time with fun events while also allowing me to help others. Learning to juggle these activities has provided many benefits as well, helping me to hone my skills in time management, collaboration, and leadership, while instilling an appreciation for the work others contribute. Most prominently, my participation in these activities, particularly Student Council, RAP, and MHS, has collectively helped to reaffirm my lifelong passion for service to others. Student Council has likely been the most beneficial activity for me, as it has provided me a unique opportunity for leadership and immersion in the school's activities, opening numerous doors to new opportunities and helping me gain skills necessary for life outside of school.” Outside of school, she split her time between work, family, and hobbies. “Work ethic is extremely important to me, and I often pick up extra shifts at my place of employment to help out. When I am not working, I turn to reading, painting, and drawing to fill my time. I especially enjoy reading, which exposes me to new ways of thinking and helps me escape reality. I also prioritize spending time with my family and helping my parents with random little projects at home.” It’s hard for her to pinpoint a single favorite memory during her high school years, she will leave with a collection of memories and friendships she made along the way. But she does have a favorite event- the Color Run. “As a member of Student Council, MHS, and other organizations, I participate in many meaningful activities. However, the Color Run stands out as my favorite event because it brings people together in a way that not only positively impacts the community through the funds raised, but it also unites students for a fun, vibrant day. Seeing the immediate joy students experienced and the impact it had on the community made the Color Run the most rewarding event I helped organize.” After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR), which works alongside the Mayo Clinic. This university is solely dedicated to students pursuing careers in the health science field. While attending UMR, she will act on her lifelong interest in medicine and pursue a career as a medical doctor to address the detrimental gender disparity in healthcare. In 10 years, "I will still be in the process of becoming a medical doctor. With the training, education, and skills I gain through UMR and Mayo Clinic, my goal is to take an active role as an advocate, educator, and esteemed medical doctor. In doing so, I can combine my dedication to service while also addressing the disparity in healthcare, thereby positively impacting future generations." Advice she leaves for high school freshmen: "Embrace challenges that push you out of your comfort zone; only then does growth happen. However, it is important to know your limits. Do not overextend yourself to the point where you must sacrifice the quality of your work or your personal well-being."

< Middle/High School Academics District Calendar Guidance Office Media Center New Enrollment May 2019 Student of the Month Austin Gibbs Austin Gibbs, son of Angie and Josh Gibbs, has been named May Student of the Month at Royalton High School (RHS). He has a younger brother, Braydon, who is an eighth grader at Royalton. Gibbs’ favorite class was accelerated metals, taught by his favorite teacher Robert Skwira. “I built a trailer from a pile of metal and am now able to use it for things around the farm,” said Gibbs. “Austin Gibbs is an outstanding young man with a great work ethic,” said Skwira. “He takes pride in the projects he is working and does not give up. He cares about other people. Austin works hard in school to keep up his grades while working 20 hours a week at DJ Products in Little Falls. He served as the 2018-2019 FFA Chapter President where he displayed many leadership skills as he lead the Royalton FFA chapter throughout the school year. Austin will be a great asset to any future employer.” English teacher Sheri Menden said, “Austin is a quiet leader; he takes in the actions of those around him, thinks before he speaks, and offers significant insight where needed. I enjoy the maturity he shows when bringing up discussion issues, especially when he offers ideas contradictory to his peers.” Austin is involved in FFA, and National Honors Society. His favorite high school memory was going to nationals for FFA in Indianapolis. Future Plans for Gibbs are to attend Alexandria Technical College. Once he has fished there, he plans to go to work at Dakota Fluid Power in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The advice he would give to freshmen students is: “If you are not loud and obnoxious and listen to the rules, you won’t get into much trouble.”
- February 2018 Artist of the Month
< Middle/High School Academics District Calendar Guidance Office Media Center New Enrollment < Back February 2018 Artist of the Month Marshall Meehl Marshall Meehl, the son of Robert and Cheryl Meehl was recently named February Artist of the month at Royalton High School. He has been a leader in the school's Yearbook class for the past three years where he broke the all time school record for most ad sales. These sales not only paid for computers and software to run programs, but helped to keep the yearbooks affordable for all students. "I have always enjoyed drawing when I was younger," said Meehl. "That kind of runs in my family. The yearbook ad sales record just seemed easy for me." "I started teaching more than a few years back, and actually remember teaching Bob Meehl, the father of these talented boys," stated Royalton High School Visual Art Instructor Carl Halverson. "It was no surprise when Marshall showed up as a seventh grader with these same kinds of superior visual art talents. It was an added bonus, and a very pleasant surprise to see him out sell any sophomore in school history in yearbook class. Marshall has taken most of the high school art electives, and while he excels in each area, his drawing skills have seen the most significant growth. Every student in the school searches to find these areas that interest them the most, and hopefully, may lead them somewhere as they graduate from high school. There is no doubt in my mind that Marshall will use his sales and marketing skills in his future. After all, every student must use these same skills to "sell themselves" as they apply to a post secondary school, or even to fill out a job application. I hope that he continues to work to develop his artistic talents as well in his future. We will most definitely miss the funds that he has generated over the years to improve our yearbooks. More than anything else though, I will personally miss his "off the wall" sense of humor and his genuine concern for his peers." "This being my senior year, makes everything that much more special," added Meehl. "I remember the very first time I walked in to my seventh grade art class and Halverson telling me that I had some of the same talents that my brothers had. After every project, I would go home and compare mine to my brother's work. Even though I never thought that mine measured up to their work, he would just keep encouraging me to focus on doing "My Best" and not to focus on what I couldn't control. In that way, he's helped me through all areas throughout the years. We've talked about not just improving as an artist, but focusing on just being a better person and looking out for others too. It's been a journey with Halverson and the Art Department that I do not take for granted, and one I will never forget."
